When she returned to the safe house, Elana entered the gym, where she found Kenna throwing a roundhouse kick at Hunter’s head. He caught her leg midair and used his leverage to flip her off her other foot and onto the mat.

Kenna landed with a thud and a grunt. “Oh, hey, Elana,” she said, glancing up from the floor. Hunt pulled her back to her feet before reaching for his towel.

“Remind me never to take on either one of you,” said Elana.

Hunt smiled. “We’ve been doing this since we were little kids.”

“Are we done, Hunt?”

“I need to clean up and get to Mom’s for dinner,” he answered. “She said she’ll make you whatever you want when this op is over.”

“I don’t know what I’ll want for dinner, but I already know what’s on the dessert menu.”

“Let me guess,” he said sarcastically. “French plum cake.”

“I heard the funeral was a success,” Kenna said.

“Yeah.”

“You okay?”

“It’s just sad when someone dies so young. I’d met Raisa, you know.”

“No, I didn’t know.”

“She was a nice girl actually. Vladimir invited me to the memorial dinner, so I think tonight is my ‘in.’ I’m going to change into something comfortable and then head next door before I leave again.”

“I’ll grab a quick shower and be right over.”

Elana nodded and closed the door when she left the room.
